Man dies after car collides with snowplow

UPDATE: According to the OCSD, the victim’s name was Jhovany Cordova Cortes, 24, of Beaver Dam. He was identified by two individuals.

A man was killed Sunday evening after colliding with a snow plow on U.S. Highway 231 South.

According to a press release from the Ohio County Sheriff’s Department (OCSD), on Sunday around 5:30 p.m., the Ohio County 911 Dispatch Center received a call of a two vehicle motor vehicle collision on U.S. Highway 231 South at the intersection of Lee Drive in Cromwell.

The OCSD, along with the Cromwell Fire Department, the Beaver Dam Fire Department and Ohio County EMS, responded and arrived on scene to find a black Honda car had collided with a Kentucky Transportation Cabinet snowplow.

The initial investigation indicated the driver of the black Honda, an unidentified Hispanic male, lost control of the car on the snow and ice-covered roadway and skidded into the path of the snowplow with the blade of the plow striking the Honda in the passenger side.

The driver of the Honda was pronounced dead at the Ohio County Hospital by Deputy Coroner Jerry Bevil.  The driver of the snowplow, John R. Reynolds, was not injured.

At this time the investigation is ongoing and the release of the name of the Hispanic male is pending upon positive identification and notification of next of kin.
