Magistrates consider options for old mall building, race track operations

The Butler County Fiscal Court met in regular session on Monday, August 14th at the Butler County Courthouse.  All magistrates were in attendance along with several visitors.
County Attorney Richard Deye asked that the letter of clarification from the Kentucky Association of Counties concerning Kentucky Revised Statute (KRS) for advertising and accepting bids he presented at the July 24th meeting be placed into the record.
Mr. Deye also spoke to the court concerning possible lease options for the Old Mall Building. Heather Keown asked the court about leasing the building for Zumba and Kick Boxing Classes at a called meeting on August 1st.   Mr. Deye explained two different options to the court.
"The court can lease the building to an individual or business or choose to run the exercise program and hire someone to conduct the classes," said Deye.
Several ladies that attend the Zumba classes were in attendance and supported Mrs. Keown's attempt to secure a location for the classes. Gina Tynes, of Hocker Insurance, spoke to the liability of the lease options for the county. Other considerations for the building include office space for a satellite location forthe Barren River Area Development Workforce Career Center.  No action was taken concerning the building.
In other business, the court approved the Cedar Ridge Racetrack Permit Documents.  According to Judge David Fields, the permit document states the restrictions of dates and times for operation of the racetrack and the requirement to pay county occupational taxes.  Once the document is signed by the owner of the track, Judge Fields will sign, and the proper permits will be issued.
The court approved the following by a 5-0 vote:

  • Payment to Coleman Contracting for dump clean up on Mark Bratcher property $5,976
