Lookin Thru Bifocals: Don Locke

We will never really own anything except our own thoughts – someone said here, again, are some of mine: Simple pleasures… (In no particular order):

Two cookies left when you thought there was only one. One hiding from the other on the plate…

            Hot coffee; cold milk…

A warm sweat-suit just out of the dryer on a cold morning…

Good sleep - They say if an adult sleeps 7.5 hours he/she dreams on the average of 1.5 hours…

Minimum amount of pain each day…

Phone conversations with an old friend…

Good digestion an alimentary canal function…

            Minimum amount of medication required…

My best friend: my wife… speaking of best friends, Mamie was apart from her husband, Gen. Dwight, during the years of World War-Two, said, “It was such a wonderful pleasure just to be in bed with the again, and run my hand over his old bald head.”

John Wayne movies: John Wayne’s family said, John got down on his knee in his last hours before he died, beside his hospital bed, and asked Jesus to save his soul. ‘Way to go John!’

What’s life without laughter? Two of my favorite funny men are: Johnnie Winters and Cowboy poet, Baxter Black. (Baxter Black is, Dorton Baxter Black.)

When your child says, “I love you Daddy” or “I love you Mommy.”

I had no problem giving up driving a car. But I remember with such pleasure my Air Force flying days. I still miss them… I had, “the best seat in the house”. Now I have a problem opening a package of NABS. Yes, I’ve “gone through the change” (if men do that).

My first Air Force plane was the T-34. When I was introduced to it, I was told it cost the Air Force, $35,000: “Be careful not to bend it.” Multiply that by 10 now. Vaughn Roberts was my first A.F. flight instructor, an ex-WW, two fighter pilot. I liked him a lot – he taught me much. Thanks a lot for letting me bare my soul to you a bit.

Eat good; sleep well; pray a lot… don’t forget to let in the dog and put out the cat.

Kindest regards…
