Locals Give Day of Service for Impact Kentucky
“What if church left the building?” This question on purple shirts seen around Morgantown on Saturday, August 24 gave a clue to the purpose of Impact Kentucky. Volunteers from all Butler County United Methodist churches came together to participate in this day of service outside their church buildings. These men, women and children led a gospel music sing-along at Morgantown Care and Rehabilitation, worked at Morgantown Mission, and participated in prayer ministry. On the same day about 2,200 volunteers from across Kentucky fanned out over several western Kentucky communities to perform various service projects. For the past two years, Impact Kentucky has focused its service projects in the eastern half of the state, traveling to Red Bird Mission in 2011 and to West Liberty last year to help victims of a tornado that devastated that city. Organizers of the event stated “Our purpose is to make an impact in individual's lives, group organizations, and communities by getting out of the church building and showing the love of Christ through helping others. We are putting belief into action.”
