Local Swimmers Participate in Bluegrass Games
Four members of the Morgantown-Butler County Swim Team attended the Kentucky Bluegrass State Games on June 15th and 16th in Lexington. Bluegrass State Games is a member of the National Congress of State Games which is a member of the United States Olympic Committee.
Athletes from all over Kentucky gather to compete in their respective sports. Representing MBCST where Cameron and Adrianna Joiner, Mattie and Parker Smith. Each swimmer was able to swim in 2 individual events and 1 relay event per day. Though enough swimmers didn’t attend from MBCST to have a relay team the swimmers representing MBCST were able to team up with other swimmers from across the state to form a relay team.
At the end of day one Cameron Joiner had 3 gold medals, Adrianna Joiner had 1 gold and 1 silver, Parker Smith had 1 gold and 1 bronze, and Mattie Smith had 1 gold. At the end of day 2 Cameron had managed to earn gold in all 6 of his events. Adrianna got 2 gold, 1 silver and 1 bronze, Mattie got 2 gold, and Parker got 2 gold and 3 bronze.
The coaches are very pleased with the performance of the swimmers that were able to attend and hope that more are able to attend next year. You can see these swimmers and the entire team in action at any of the swim meets this season or at the South Western Swim Team Association Championship Meet being hosted at the Morgantown City pool this year on July 27th.
