Local City Officials Receive KLC Training Awards

LEXINGTON, KY – The Kentucky League of Cities (KLC) recognized three Morgantown city officials for their achievements in city governance. KLC presented Councilmember Dustin Embry and Assistant ABC Administrator Dana Phelps with Level III Master of City Governance awards. In addition, KLC presented ABC Administrator/Code Enforcement Officer Robert McKee with a Level I Achievement in City Governance award.

KLC administers the City Officials Training Center, a voluntary education program. City officials can complete education levels by attending KLC events and submitting outside educational credit from other municipal training.

“I am very proud of the accomplishments of our staff and city councilman on continuing their work and growth in city knowledge,” Morgantown Mayor and KLC Board of Directors member Billy Phelps said. “Having an eager, smart, and capable staff is a necessity to every city going into the future. I want to think that Morgantown, a small city in western Kentucky, is leading the way. Kentucky League of Cities provides that opportunity by bringing the best training that can be received in Kentucky Municipal Government.”

“The importance of education and community service to our elected officials is apparent by their dedication to gaining new knowledge about city government,” said KLC Executive Director|CEO James D. Chaney. “It is our honor to offer training that helps these local leaders continue to serve their citizens and the cities they call home.”

The Level I Achievement in City Governance award requires a city official to attend a minimum of 30 hours of approved training with two hours of ethics training.

The Level III Master of City Governance award requires a city official to attend a minimum of 90 hours of approved training with three hours of ethics training.
