Lady Bears upend Warren Central, 55-36; Bears roll past Apollo, 60-26

BOWLING GREEN — Winning on the road, Butler County upended Warren Central 55-36 in a girls' high school basketball game on Tuesday, Jan. 3. 

Following the win, Butler County improved to 9-3. 

Butler County gradually pulled away to beat Warren Central convincingly. The Lady Bears led 40-23 at the end of the third quarter. 

Butler County shot 34.5 percent (20-of-58) from the field. The Lady Bears connected on three of 14 three-point field goal attempts. 

Butler County shot 66.7 percent (12-of-18) from the free throw line.

Excelling inside, Butler County outrebounded Warren Central 44-21.

Parker Willoughby scored a game-high 13 points to lead the Lady Bears. 

Recording a double-double for Butler County, Jenna Phelps provided 11 points and 10 rebounds.

Butler County received scoring from eight different players. The additional scorers for Butler County were Ava Wilson (eight points), Ann Marie Skaggs (six points), Bailey Moore (five points), Kennedy Rice (five points), Taylor Leach (five points) and Karrington Hunt (two points).

Skaggs paced Butler County inside, claiming a game-high 11 rebounds.

Defensively, Butler County held Warren Central to 28.8 percent (15-of-52) shooting from the field. Warren Central finished zero-of-four from three-point range. 

Aida Akhmedova scored 13 points to lead the Lady Dragons. Finishing directly behind Akhmedova in scoring for Warren Central, Jaliyah Bailey netted 12 points. 

Butler County is scheduled to visit Russellville on Saturday, Jan. 7. Tip-off for the Butler County-Russellville girls' basketball game is slated for 6 p.m.

Bears roll past Apollo, 60-26


MORGANTOWN — Remaining in the win column, Butler County rolled past visiting Apollo 60-26 on Tuesday, Jan. 3. 

The Bears dominated throughout the boys' high school basketball game.

Setting the tone early, Butler County doubled up Third Region rival Apollo 20-10 in the first quarter.

Butler County led 34-12 at halftime and remained in control throughout the second half. 

Improving to 9-5 after posting the win, Butler County shot 53.3 percent (24-of-45) from the field in the win. The Bears shot 43.8 percent (seven-of-16) from three-point range.

Butler County shot 71.4 percent from the free throw line. 

Ty Price scored a game-high 23 points to lead Butler County to the win. Price connected on five of 10 three-point field goal attempts.

Accompanying Price in double figures for the Bears, Justin Castlen netted 10 points for the Bears. 

The additional scorers for Butler County were Trever Deweese (six points), Luke Laughing (six points), Lawson Rice (six points), Kolton Hudson (four points), Colt Akers (three points) and Keagen Grubb (two points). 

Butler County is scheduled to visit Heritage Christian on Thursday, Jan. 5. Tip-off for the Butler County-Heritage Christian boys' basketball game is slated for 7:30 p.m. in Hopkinsville.
