Lady Bears start 2-0 with wins over Hancock, Russellville
The Butler County Lady Bears started the 2013-2014 season off 2-0 picking up wins on Monday and Tuesday night. Butler County defeated Hancock County 43- 34, and easily cruised to a 55-21 win over the Lady Panthers of Russellville.
Coach Christy Clark is pleased with the victories over Hancock County and Russellville but says the Lady Bears still have a lot to work on.
The Lady Bears jumped out to a quick led in the first quarter by the hot hand of Katie Graham and a full court press as Butler County led 12-6. McKinzey Smith was effective on the point of the Lady Bears’ 1-2-2 zone defense. The Lady Hornets settled in during the second quarter and with 5:52 left in the first half the score was tied at 12-12. The two teams battled back and forth and went to the locker rooms tied up at 20 at halftime.
The battle continued during the third quarter with Graham knocking down a three pointer with 5:36 on the clock, Lynsie Clark followed with a three of her own as the Lady Bears took a 30-26 led into the fourth quarter. Addison Hall came off the bench scoring all six of her points in the final quarter to seal the win for Butler County.

The Lady Bears JV team dropped a nail bitter (31-33) with Hancock County on Monday night.

On Tuesday night the Lady Bears hosted the Lady Panthers of Russellville. The game was never in question as Butler County took the lead and didn’t look back. Russellville struggled with the tough defense of Butler County and had no answer for the scoring trio of Chloe Flener (15), Katie Graham (12), and Lynsie Clark (13).
It was 26-12 at the break. Coach Christy Clark emptied the bench during the second half as Butler County cruised to a 55-21 win.
“We stressed to our team that we needed to shoot with confidence and follow our shots and I think we did that tonight,” said Coach Clark.
Chloe Flener scored 8 of her 15 points in the second quarter and added 7 points in the fourth quarter. Lynsie Clark had 8 assists for the game.
"This was a great way to start our senior year; we have high expectations as a team,” said Lynsie Clark.
