Lady Bears split with East; fall to McLean

The Butler County Lady Bears had a tough week of basketball playing four games and picking up one win.  On Monday night the Lady Bears easily took care of the Warren East Lady Raiders 57-28.  Butler County jumped out to a 14-2 lead in the first quarter and never looked back. The Lady Bears extended the led to 32-12 at the half. Free throws played a major role in the game as Butler County scored 29 points from the line.  Coach Christy Clark was able to empty the bench and eleven Lady Bears made it into the score book.

On Thursday night the Lady Bears traveled to Warren East and the outcome was much different as Butler County fell 38-40. Plagued by foul trouble the Lady Bears led by three at the half 20-17.  Seniors Lynsie Clark and Katie Graham with three and four fouls, respectively, in the third, saw Warren East take the led 27-26. Clark and Shawna West knocked down three’s in the final quarter but it wasn’t enough.  The lead changed hands several times during the final quarter.  Clark hit one free throw with 10.6 seconds left to tie the game at 38.  Graham fouled out with 5.8 seconds left and Houchens went to the line and made both shots giving Warren East the win 40-38.

Shawna West led the Lady Bears with 12 points and Lynsie Clark added 10 points.
The Lady Raiders (3-13) got 15 points from Erin Houchins, Jill Renfro had 11 points and Dayaoine Bibb added seven points.

On Saturday, the Butler County Lady Bears hosted McLean County in their fourth basketball game of the week, and the Lady Bears fell to McLean County 60-51.  Butler County’s record is now 7-12 on the season.
McLean County came out hot; knocking down six three’s in the half, as they rallied to a 33-18 lead at half time.  McLean County shot 76 percent from the free throw line compared to Butler County’s 59 percent.

For McLean County, Hannah Render led all scorers with 17 points, 16 for Katie Dickerson, and 15 for Mattie Crumbaker including 5 three pointers. 
Butler County was led by seniors Lynsie Clark and Katie Graham with 12 points each, and 10 points for sophomore Callie Cardwell in her best scoring outing as a varsity player.
