Lady Bears outlast AC-S after district loss

MORGANTOWN - Butler County returned to the win column at home on Monday night, outlasting visiting Allen County-Scottsville 63-60 in a girls' high school basketball game. 

With the win, Butler County improved to 7-12.

Butler County shot 29.8 percent (17-of-57) from the field. The Lady Bears were 4-of-14 (28.6 percent) from 3-point range.

Butler County shot 55.6 percent (25-of-45) from the free throw line in the winning effort. 

Gracie Cardwell led Butler County with 17 points. Cardwell was 7-of-11 from inside the arc.

Following Cardwell, Jenna Phelps added 14 points for the Lady Bears. Phelps was 9-of-14 from the fee throw line.

Accompanying Cardwell and Phelps in double figures in scoring for Butler County and recording a double-double, Taylin Clark added 13 points and a game-high 16 rebounds. 

Narrowly missing double figures for the Lady Bears, Jaelyn Taylor netted nine points.

Combining to round out the Lady Bears' individual scoring in the victory were Graci Leach (four points), Jacie Ward (four points) and Kaylee Givens (two points). 

Allison Meador led Allen County-Scottsville with a game-high 25 points. Accompanying Meador in double figures for the Lady Patriots, Kaylee Bullington netted 16 points and Jaylee Steenbergen added 10 points. 

Grayson County 81, Butler County 69: Butler County fell short as host Grayson County pulled away to win 81-69 in a 12th District girls' basketball game on Friday night. 

Kenzie Renfrow led Grayson County with a game-high 27 points. 

Finishing near her teammate in scoring for the Lady Cougars, Bailey Snyder added 25 points.

Grayson County featured three scorers in double figures as Rachael Snyder netted 19 points and grabbed 11 rebounds. 

The Lady Cougars trailed early. Butler County led 19-10 at the conclusion of the opening quarter but couldn't maintain any momentum. Grayson County battled back to lead 34-28 at halftime. 

The Lady Cougars led 58-50 at the end of the third quarter and finished strong. 

The additional scorers for Grayson County were Raigan Cave (five points), Ella Robinson (four points) and Jenna Nash (one point).

Jenna Phelps paced Butler County with a game-high 29 points. Joining Phelps in double figures for the Lady Bears, Jaelyn Taylor added 16 points and Taylin Clark contributed 11 points.

Gracie Cardwell and Jacie Ward rounded out Butler County's individual scoring, chipping in nine points and four points, respectively. 

Both Grayson County and Butler County will compete in the 12th District Girls' Basketball Tournament in February.
