Lady Bears level Whitesville Trinity, 70-42; advance to district championship

BROWNSVILLE — Butler County rolled in the semifinals of the 12th District Girls' Basketball Tournament at Edmonson County High School, beating Whitesville Trinity 70-42 on Monday, Feb. 20. 

Following the win, Butler County (19-9) advances to the 12th District Girls' Basketball Tournament title game. 

Butler County gradually pulled away to win convincingly, edging Whitesville Trinity 12-10 in the opening quarter. 

The Lady Bears led 34-19 at halftime and remained in control throughout the second half.

Butler County added to its advantage after the intermission period, leading 52-27 at the conclusion of the third quarter.

The Lady Bears used a balanced offensive attack to claim the win. Butler County featured four scorers in double figures. 

Jenna Phelps scored 19 points to lead Butler County to the convincing win over Whitesville Trinity. Along with Phelps reaching double figures for Butler County, Ava Wilson scored 12 points while Taylor Leach and Tinslea Belcher netted 11 points apiece.

Aiding in the win, Bailey Moore (five points), Kennedy Rice (four points), Parker Willoughby (three points), Tobin Maxfield (three points) and Karrington Hunt (two points) provided Butler County's additional scoring. 

In the nightcap of the 12th District Girls' Basketball Tournament on Monday, Feb. 23, Edmonson County defeated Grayson County 66-42. 

Both Butler County and Edmonson County have qualified for the 3rd Region Girls' Basketball Tournament. 

 

Butler County will meet tournament host Edmonson County in the 12th District girls' basketball title game at 7 p.m. on Thursday, Feb. 23.
