Lady Bears to host Owensboro in regular-season finale

 

MORGANTOWN - Butler County is scheduled to host Third Region rival Owensboro in its regular-season finale on Friday night. The Lady Bears haven't played since entertaining Muhlenberg County on Saturday (Feb. 10). 

Butler County and Owensboro met earlier in the 2017-18 season. Owensboro defeated the Lady Bears 67-46 in an early-season meeting on November 28.

Butler County will carry a 5-18 record into the matchup versus Owensboro. The Lady Bears are on a four-game losing streak following losses to Ohio County, Edmonson County, Whitesville Trinity and Muhlenberg County.

Butler County has notched wins over Russellville, Warren Central, Ohio County, Cumbeland County and Whitesville Trinity thus far in the 2017-18 season. 

Butler County, a team under the direction of head coach Brian Bivens, topped 12th District rival Whitesville Trinity 66-61 for its most recent win on February 3.

Owensboro is under the direction of head coach Jansen Locher. The Lady Red Devils have compiled a 7-18 record in 25 games. 

Owensboro, which competes in the Ninth District, has posted additional wins over Ohio County, Whitesville Trinity, Union County, North Hardin, Madisonville-North Hopkins and Apollo. Th Lady Devils are on a five-game losing streak following losses to Apollo, Meade County, Owensboro Catholic, Webster County and Breckinridge County. Owensboro beat Hancock County 63-57 for its most recent win on January 29. 

High school basketball teams throughout the state are winding down their regular-seasons. Butler County will compete in the 12th District Girls' Basketball Tournament in less than one week.

However, before then, Butler County will look to gain some momentum and notch a win over Owensboro in its regular-season finale.

Tip-off for the Butler County-Owensboro girls' basketball game is set for 7:30 p.m.
