Lady Bears finish runner-up in 12th District

BROWNSVILLE — Butler County trailed at the end of each quarter as Edmonson County pulled away to win 50-33 in the 12th District Girls' Basketball Tournament championship game on Thursday, Feb. 23. 

Starting strong, Edmonson County outscored Butler County 17-2 in the first quarter. 

Ultimately, Edmonson County doubled up Butler County 24-12 in the first half.

Edmonson County led 38-22 at the end of the third quarter and remained in control throughout the final period. 

Lily Jayne Vincent, Annie Kiper and Cariann Williams scored 13 points apiece to pace Edmonson County in the championship-clinching win.

Contributing offensively, Callie Webb (six points), Emma White (three points) and Riley Roy (two points) provided Edmonson County's other scoring. 

Jenna Phelps scored a game-high 14 points to lead the Lady Bears. Accompanying Phelps in double figures for Butler County, Bailey Moore netted 10 points. 

Five players accounted for all of Butler County's scoring. The additional scorers for Butler County were Taylor Leach (six points), Tinslea Belcher (two points) and Karrington Hunt (one point). 

Edmonson County claimed its first district title since 2020. 

Both Edmonson County (22-7) and Butler County (19-10) advance to the 3rd Region Girls' Basketball Tournament.
