Q & A with Head Coach Amy Rogers / BCHS Softball

  • How many years have you been coaching, assistant & head coaching in years total?

I have been coaching for six years—two as an assistant coach and four as head coach—all at Butler County High School.

  • List all your assistant coaches for the 2025 season.  Jesse Miller, Jason Jones, and Jessi McKee
  • List BCHS Fastpitch Softball Team Captains.

Our captains for the 2025 Softball season are Karrington Hunt, Miley Franzell, and Taylor Smith.

  • List your return key players.

We lost three outstanding seniors, but we have several returning players. All returning players will have a key role in this upcoming season. Lydia Brown, Karrington Hunt, Miley Franzell, Maddie Jones, Taylor Smith, Carly Cardwell, Raylynn Nicewinter, and Jenna Tomes are all returning players who will have key roles this coming season.

  • List how you see in the pre-season who you feel is the Region favorite at the top.

In our Region, Daviess is the favorite at the top. They have been for the last several years, but we have several other teams in the Region who will be great this year.

  • List how you see the 12th district, ranking them 1-4.

It is hard to rank our district 1-4. Our district is one where anyone can beat anyone on any given day. As a whole, our teams in the district are pretty even. Edmonson and Trinity (Whitesville) will be tough teams again this year, but you can never count out Grayson Co. They had a young team last year, and I am sure they will continue improving. As for us, we are right there in the mix of all teams! It’s going to be a tough district battle again this year.

  • List and discuss your pitching staff and rotations.

When it comes to pitching rotation, it is different than in baseball. We can use one pitcher the entire season and not have to worry about pitch counts (even though we do monitor them, so a pitcher isn’t throwing 200 pitches in one game) For this season, we have three pitchers who will each play a vital role. Miley Franzell, a Junior, will be one of our pitchers doing most of the Varsity Pitching. Shelby McDaniel, a Freshman, will come in as relief in some varsity games as well as pitch in JV games. Finally, Callyn Smith, a seventh Grader, may have some Varsity innings here or there, but she will also pitch some in JV games.

We look forward to a fantastic season and hope to have the bleachers packed with community support all season. GO BEARS!
