Lady Bears fall to Owensboro Catholic in 3rd Region Tournament

OWENSBORO — Butler County fell behind early and couldn't battle back as Owensboro Catholic pulled away to win 71-29 in the opening round of the 3rd Region Girls' Basketball Tournament at the Owensboro Sportscenter on Monday, Feb. 27.

The loss eliminated Butler County from the 3rd Region Girls' Basketball Tournament. Butler County exited the 2022-23 girls' high school basketball season 19-11.

Owensboro Catholic set the tone during the first quarter of the region tournament game, outscoring Butler County 21-9.

Extending its lead over Butler County, Owensboro Catholic led 45-15 at halftime.

Continuing to control the postseason matchup, Owensboro Catholic led 60-21 at the end of the third quarter.

Hailee Johnson scored a game-high 16 points to lead Owensboro Catholic (23-9) to the win.

Ava Wilson scored 12 points to lead Butler County in the region tournament game. In addition to Wilson, Butler County received scoring from Taylor Leach (five points), Parker Willoughby (three points), Jenna Phelps (three points), Karrington Hunt (two points), Ann Marie Skaggs (two points) and Kennedy Rice (two points).
