Lady Bears Fall to Breck and ACS

The Butler County Lady Bears started 2013 off at a hectic pace as they played Thursday, Friday, and Saturday nights.  First on tap Butler County traveled to Breckinridge County to face off with the Lady Tigers without Madeline Drake in the lineup and a very sick Lynsie Clark.  Offensively Butler County struggled.  Chloe Flener made the only two baskets in the first quarter as Breck outscored the Lady Bears 12-8 behind Emma Payne’s 7 points.    Flener and Allie Easley picked up two more baskets in the second quarter as Katie Graham added four fouls shots and Lynsie Clark hit two from the line.  The Lady Tigers went up by 10 at half 28-18.

The second half of the game turned into a battle between the Lady Bears and Jenna Thornhill as she went on a scoring streak, finishing with 18 points.  Easley led the Lady Bears with 10 points on the evening as Butler County fell 46-36 to Breckinridge County.

The Allen County-Scottsville Lady Patriots (12-2) came to town on Saturday night for a battle they clearly didn’t expect.  Butler County played one of their better games of the year against a ranked team in the state.
The Lady Patriots jumped out to a quick lead outscoring Butler County 38-25 in the first half.  Coach Christy Clark changed the game plan at half time and the Lady Bears came out to play in the third quarter scoring 22 points behind the hot hand of Madeline Drake.  Drake hit five three’s on the night finishing with 22 points.   Drake hit a three with 3:10 left in the game to put Butler County up 56-55.  ACS quickly answered with a press that created three unanswered baskets.  After taking the lead ACS spread the floor and waited to be fouled. Katie Graham fouled out with 28.6 seconds left while Lysnie Clark committed her fifth foul with 4.4 seconds left.  Although the Lady Bears came away with the loss, they proved they could play with a top ranked team.
