Lady Bears Fall 55-53 to Edmonson County

The Butler County Lady Bears'season came to a close on Monday night at Whitesville Trinity. Butler County fell, 55-53, to the Edmonson County Lady Wildcats in a hard fought battle.  Senior Madeline Drake got things started for the Lady Bears knocking down a three but Edmonson quickly answered with eight straight points.  Lysnie Clark added a basket, but the Lady Wildcats jumped out to a 12-5 lead before Coach Christy Clark called time out with 4:16 remaining in the first quarter.  The time out helped to refocus Butler County as they finished the first quarter down 18-14 as Drake chipped in five points, Clark two, and Katie Graham added two points.


The second quarter started off the same as the first as Drake hit a three bringing the Lady Bears within one point 18-17. Graham scored five points prior to picking up her second foul which sent her to the bench early in the second quarter.  McKinzey Smith was a spark off the bench and quickly picked up some key rebounds and added two free throws.  Chloe Flener chipped in three points and also hit the boards for the Lady Bears.  Butler County went into the locker room down 36-28 at half time.


Allie Easley came to life in the third quarter knocking down a three, a two point basket and two free throws, scoring all seven of her points in the quarter.  Drake added six points making up all of Butler County’s scoring in the third.


Coach Ted Hill of Edmonson County went into a delayed game for much of the fourth quarter.  A run by Drake with six points and Graham with two points had the Lady Bears within three points of the Lady Wildcats 53-50 with 2:20 on the clock.  Shawna West knocked down a three to tie up the game at 53-53 with 2:16 left in the game. Clark was at the line for two shots but came up short with 45 seconds left.  Edmonson County’s Madison Rich hit two free throws with 17 seconds left on the clock to put the Lady Wildcats up by two, 55-53, and the win. 


Shawna West guarded Edmonson County’s leading scorer Madison Rich and held her to 17 points, with 7 of those coming from the free throw line.  Clemmons chipped in 13 points.
