Lady Bears edge Russellville, 45-43

GIRLS' HIGH SCHOOL BASKETBALL

Butler County edged visiting Russellville 45-43 in a girls' high school basketball game on Friday, Dec. 16. 

Familiar rivals, Butler County and Russellville swapped leads during the girls' high school basketball matchup.

The Lady Bears led 26-22 at halftime but faced a one-point deficit heading into the final quarter. 

Moving ahead after the intermission period, Russellville led 36-35 at the end of the third quarter. 

Determined Butler County managed to outscore Russellville 10-7 in the final quarter to claim the win.

Butler County featured two scorers in double figures. 

Jenna Phelps scored 18 points to lead the Lady Bears.

Accompanying Phelps in double figures for Butler County, Taylor Leach netted 10 points.

Nearly reaching double figures for Butler County, Kennedy Rice contributed eight points.

The other scorers for Butler County in the win were Parker Willoughby (four points), Ann Marie Skaggs (two points), Bailey Moore (two points) and Tinslea Belcher (one point).

A'miyah Collier scored a game-high 21 points to lead the Lady Panthers. Accompanying Collier in double figures in scoring for Russellville, while logging a double-double, Lareesha Cawthorn added 14 points and 14 rebounds.

Chipping in offensively, Jordin Morris (four points), M'Riyah Boyd (two points) and Ja'eda Poindexter accounted for the rest of Russellville's scoring. 

Butler County claimed its third straight win, improving to 4-1.

The loss forced Russellville to drop to 1-4. 

 

Butler County is scheduled to meet Union County in the opening round of the Beaver Dam Tourism Hall of Fame Classic at noon at Ohio County High School on Tuesday, Dec. 20.
