Lady Bears drop games to Warren Central, Metcalfe County

MORGANTOWN - The Butler County girls' basketball team pushed two opponents but ultimately opened the new year with a pair of losses. The Lady Bears dropped back-to-back games to Warren Central and Metcalfe County.
 
Warren Central 65, Butler County 56: Visiting Butler County was unable to return to the win column on the road as Warren Central prevailed 65-56 in a girls' high school basketball game on Friday, Jan. 3.
Warren Central shot 45.6 percent (26-of-57) from the field in the winning effort. The Lady Dragons were 5-of-11 (45.5 percent) from 3-point range. 
Warren Central shot 72.7 percent (8-of-11) from the free throw line. 
La Auhnni Lewis led Warren Central with a game-high 22 points. Lewis was 8-of-14 from the field. 
Krisheana Johnson netted 15 points and Kyleigh Ray contributed 14 points as Warren Central won. 
Butler County shot 42.9 percent (24-of-56) from the field in its setback. The Lady Bears were 4-of-11 (36.4 percent) from 3-point range. 
Butler County shot 44.4 percent (4-of-9) from the free throw line. 
Jaelyn Taylor led Butler County with 21 points. Taylor was 7-for-11 from the field. 
Jenna Phelps accompanied Taylor in double figures in scoring for Butler County, posting 11 points.
Taylin Clark (eight points), Graci Leach (seven points), Gracie Cardwell (six points) and Jacie Ward (three points) accounted for the rest of Butler County's scoring in the setback,
Cardwell and Clark combined to lead Butler County inside, pulling down eight rebounds and seven rebounds, respectively. 
 
Metcalfe County 66, Butler County 59: Visiting Butler County fell short in the end as Metcalfe County hung on to win 66-59 in a girls' high school basketball game on Saturday, Jan. 4.
Metcalfe County shot 40 percent (18-of-45) from the field. The Lady Hornets were 6-of-13 (46.2 percent) from 3-point range. 
Metcalfe County shot 64.9 percent (24-of-37) from the free throw line. 
Homestanding Metcalfe County used a balanced offensive attack to notch the win. Braelyn Davis led Metcalfe County with a team-high 18 points. Metcalfe County featured four scorers in double figures, with Macy Welsh adding 15 points, Jaycie Harper chipping in 14 points and Marisa Fields contributing 11 points. 
Rounding out Metcalfe County's individual scoring, Kassady London finished with eight points. 
Butler County shot 33.3 percent (24-of-72) from the field. The Lady Bears were only 3-for-18 from 3-point range.
Butler County shot 53.3 percent (8-of-15) from the free throw line. 
Jaelyn Taylor led Butler County in scoring, pushing in a game-high 22 points for the Lady Bears.
Taylin Clark followed Taylor in the Butler County scoring column and recorded a double-double, posting 18 points and 15 rebounds.
The additional scorers for Butler County were Gracie Cardwell (eight points), Jenna Phelps (six points), Graci Leach (three points) and Jacie Ward (two points).
