Lady Bears Drop District Game to Whitesville Trinity

WHITESVILLE - Visiting Butler County was unable to work its way back into the win column and halt a losing skid on the road on Friday night. Instead, Whitesville Trinity pulled away to beat the Lady Bears 60-51 in a 12th District girls' basketball game. 

With the loss, Butler County dropped to 1-3 overall and 0-1 in the 12th District.

Whitesville Trinity improved to 4-1 overall and 1-0 in the district with the win, its third straight victory. 

Cassidy Morris recorded a double-double to lead Whitesville Trinity to the victory. Leading the Lady Raiders offensively and defensively, Morris scored 17 points and secured 14 rebounds. 

Josie Aull added 17 points of her own for the Lady Raiders while Nina Wathen netted 13 points. 

Four different Whitesville Trinity players reached double figures in the scoring column. Morgan Kinsey contributed another double-double for Whitesville Trinity, scoring 10 points and pulling down 10 rebounds.

Whitesville Trinity overcame a three-point halftime deficit to notch the district win. Butler County led 20-17 at intermission. However, homestanding Whitesville Trinity fared better after the break, outscoring Butler County 17-11 in the third quarter to move back out in front.

Butler County wasn't without some highlights in the district matchup. Maddie Cardwell led the Lady Raiders with a game-high 20 points. 

Jaelyn Taylor accompanied Cardwell in double figures for the Lady Bears, scoring 14 points. 

Other scorers for Butler County were Jacie Ward (seven points), Leslee Washer (four points), Kasidy Graham (two points), Dixie Garnier (two points) and Taylin Clark (two points). 

Butler County is slated to visit Warren Central for a non-district game on Tuesday.
