Lady Bears Defeat Lady Cougars 58-56

Katie Graham scored 15 points and pulled down 12 rebounds but none was bigger than her basket at the end of the game giving the Lady Bears a 58-56 win over the Grayson County Lady Cougars.

The Lady Cougars came out with a full court press, which they stayed in most of the evening.  Butler County struggled as Grayson scored 15 points off turnovers in the game.  The Lady Bears however, outscored Grayson in three of the four quarters.  

Playing their first district game, the Lady Bears had a half-time lead of 31-25. Trouble struck in the third as Butler County only managed seven points, seeing their half-time lead dwindle to one point 38-37.


With 5:35 left in the games Butler County was down 45-42 when Lynsie Clark came alive.  She hit four free throws and two lay-ups, scoring 8 of her 16 points in the fourth quarter and giving the Bears a 50-48 lead with 2:05 left in the game.
Chloe Flener stepped up with a big basket extending the Lady Bears lead to 52-49 with 1:40 on the clock. Graham added a basket followed by a steal by Madeline Drake.  Drake was fouled and went to the line and made both shots as Butler County had a 56-53 lead with 34.5 seconds left in the game. 


Grayson County hit the front end of a one and one, and scored on a rebound basket. At 56-56 Coach Christy Clark called a time out.  Clark brought the ball down the court and passed into Graham who made the shot with 0.9 seconds on the clock and Butler County beat Grayson for the first time since the 2003-04 season.
Lynsie Clark had 16 points and 8 rebounds, and Katie Graham recorded a double-double with 15 points and 12 rebounds. Senior Madeline Drake scored 14 points, hitting two 3-pointers.
The Lady Bears now 2-1 on the season will travel to Warren East on Tuesday night to face off with the Lady Raiders.
