Lady Bears capture 12th District Championship

LEITCHFIELD — Determined Butler County outlasted Grayson County 44-42 in the 12th District Girls' Basketball Tournament championship game on Thursday, Feb. 29. 

Capturing the 12th District girls' basketball title, Butler County won for the sixth time in seven games.

Butler County, under the direction of Coach Lexie Belcher, edged tournament host Grayson County 9-8 in the opening quarter.

Even midway through the matchup, Butler County and Grayson County were tied 23-23 at halftime.

Grayson County led 35-31 at the conclusion of the third quarter but Butler County wouldn't be denied the win.

Finishing strong, Butler County outscored Grayson County 13-7 in the final quarter to claim the district championship-clinching victory.

Ava Wilson scored 20 points to lead Butler County to the win.

Narrowly missing double figures for Butler County, Taylor Leach netted nine points.

Bailey Moore posted five points for Butler County while Ann Marie Skaggs and Parker Willoughby contributed four points apiece.

Rounding out Butler County's scoring, Addison Miller chipped in two points. 

Ava Wilson, Parker Willoughby, Taylor Leach, and Ann Marie Skaggs were named to the All Tournament Team.

Both Butler County (18-13) and Grayson County (22-8) advance to the 3rd Region Girls' Basketball Tournament.
