Lady Bears beat Whitesville Trinity in district semifinals

WHITESVILLE - Passing its first postseason test, Butler County beat tournament host Whitesville Trinity 56-47 in the 12th District Girls' Basketball Semifinals on Monday, March 15.

With the win, Butler County improved to 9-5 and advanced to the 12th District girls' basketball title game. 

Whitesville Trinity ended its season 4-14 with the loss. 

Jaelyn Taylor scored 16 points to lead Butler County to the win. Accompanying Taylor in double figures for Butler County, Taylor Leach netted 14 points. 

Butler County carried a lead out of each quarter, outscoring Whitesville Trinity 17-12 in the opening period.

The Lady Bears led 26-23 at halftime. 

Extending its lead after the intermission period, Butler County led 44-33 at the conclusion of the third quarter.

Butler County received additional scoring from Taylin Clark (eight points), Graci Leach (six points), Gracie Cardwell (four points), Jenna Phelps (four points) and Stormee Flint (two points) in the victory. 

Defensively, Butler County limited Whitesville Trinity during the district tournament matchup. 

Butler County is scheduled to face Grayson County in the 12th District Girls' Basketball Tournament title game at 7 p.m. on Thursday, March 18. Both Butler County and Grayson County will represent the 12th District in the 3rd Region Girls' Basketball Tournament.
