Lady Bears beat Edmonson 25-21; Bears fall 69-64

BROWNSVILLE — Working its way back into the win column, Butler County defeated Edmonson County 25-21 in a 12th District girls' basketball game on Friday, Jan. 20. 

With the win, Butler County improved to 12-6 overall and moved to 3-0 in the 12th District.

Edmonson County dropped to 12-6 overall and 2-1 in the 12th District following the loss. 

Butler County managed to edge Edmonson County 4-3 in the first quarter.

Stretching its lead, Butler County led 14-8 at halftime.

But Edmonson County battled back to lead 19-18 at the end of the third quarter. 

Still, Butler County wouldn't be denied the district win. Finishing strong, Butler County outscored Edmonson County 7-2 in the fourth quarter to claim the district victory. 

Jenna Phelps scored 17 points to lead Butler County to the district win. In addition to Phelps, Bailey Moore (three points), Ava Wilson (two points), Kennedy Rice (two points) and Taylor Leach (one point) provided scoring for Butler County in the district matchup. 

Butler County is scheduled to host Warren East on Thursday, Jan. 26. Tip-off for the Butler County-Warren East girls' basketball game is set for 7:30 p.m. in Bowling Green.

Bears drop district game to Wildcats


BROWNSVILLE — Butler County suffered a setback as Edmonson County prevailed 69-64 in a 12th District boys' basketball game on Friday, Jan. 20. 

With the loss, Butler County dropped to 12-7 overall and 1-2 in the 12th District. 

Edmonson County improved to 11-8 overall and 2-1 in the 12th District after notching the win.

The Bears fell behind early and faced a deficit at the conclusion of each quarter. 

Starting strong, host Edmonson County outscored the Bears 24-11 in the opening period,

Remaining out in front midway through the district matchup, Edmonson County led 32-20 at halftime.

Maintaining a double-digit lead shortly after the break, Edmonson County led 51-38 at the end of the third quarter.

Prior to falling short, Butler County made multiple runs late. The Bears cut into Edmonson County's lead on numerous possesses during the final quarter. 

Butler County featured four scorers in double figures. 

Ty Price scored 25 points to lead the Bears. Accompanying Price in double figures for Butler County, Lawson Rice scored 14 points, Trever Deweese netted 13 points and Justin Castlen added 10 points.

Rounding out Butler County's individual scoring, Kolton Hudson chipped in two points.

Butler County is scheduled to visit Allen County-Scottsville on Monday, Jan. 23. Tip-off for the Butler County-Allen County-Scottsville boys' basketball game is set for 7:30 p.m.
