KPA intern Hannah Vanover begins summer work at Beech Tree News

Hannah Vanover

Originally from Owensboro, Kentucky, I moved to Ohio County in 2014 and have since found myself engulfed and involved in my community more so than I ever thought I would.

I am 20-years-old and a junior at Western Kentucky University, double majoring in Photojournalism and Public Relations. My love for photography started at a young age when my interest in all things camera-related began. With the intentions to become a photography and art student, the aspect of journalism did not hit me until I made the decision to attend WKU – known for their nationally-ranked #1 Photojournalism program in the country. I began to realize the importance of storytelling and reporting. Having the ability to make a difference and inform those in a community of necessary information gives me a purpose. As writing had always been another passion of mine, I want to use my time at Beech Tree News to gain more writing experience and explore my abilities further.

As a member and officer of FBLA in high school, I placed for state and national levels in the business and newspaper reporting category. While in college, aside from my part-time job as a cashier, I have also worked at WKU’s Student Publications as a staff photographer at the College Heights Herald for a year. In the upcoming fall, I will be continuing my position as a photographer at Cherry Creative; Student Publication’s newest addition. I am also a freelance photographer and reporter for Ohio County Times News and a photographer for the Beaver Dam Summer Concert Series.

I enjoy working with and meeting new people and love the diversity of experiences that journalism provides me with. Knowing that each day may consist of something new is what I look forward to.

As I pass through Morgantown on my daily drives to Western, I am familiar with the area, however I look forward to getting to know the town better. I hope to gain more knowledge and experience with my time at Beech Tree and challenge my self to learn new things. I can’t wait to work with the BTN staff and explore the community!
