Kids on the Block Visit Chamber Luncheon

Kids on the Block took center stage at the July Chamber luncheon on Thursday, July 23rd at the Butler County Extension Office.   The troupe of educational puppets performed an abbreviated skit of their child abuse prevention program.

“We are puppets with a purpose,” said Ashley Reynolds, Executive Director of Kids on the Block.  “It is always great to come to Butler County, being the granddaughter of the late Judge Clay Johnson, this is home. The local schools are wonderful to work with and our programs have been well received.

According to Reynolds Kids on the Block have programs available for kindergarten thru sixth grade dealing with medical conditions, safety issues, social issues, and prevention and life lessons.  Kids on the Block use the medium of Japanese Bunraku style puppetry to bring children to the teachable moment.  The life size puppet has his or her own personality, reflecting likes, dislikes, dreams, goals, talents, abilities and limitations.

Green River Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution and Beech Tree News have provided funding for programs at Morgantown Elementary and North Butler Elementary for the 2015-16 school year.

Chamber President James Runion announced Drake’s Farm Service as the winner of the 2015 window decoration contest.  They will receive a free cookout from the chamber board.  Morgantown Care and Rehab placed second.

“The festival had a lot of rain but the Chamber still did okay during the Catfish Festival.  Sometimes the weather works with you, sometimes it doesn’t,” said Runion.

The Chamber luncheon was sponsored by Aberdeen Baptist Church, Chad’s Body Shop & Wrecker Service, Chamber of Commerce, Butler County Farm Bureau, and Chad’s Self Storage & Outdoor Billboards.  The meal was catered by Green River Caterers.
