Kids On The Block Coming to Butler County

Kids On the Block is coming to Butler County Schools.  South Central Kentucky Kids on the block provides on-going education and prevention through puppetry for children and the community at large, in physical challenges, medical conditions, social issues and safety concerns.

The Bullies and School Safety program has been scheduled at both elementary schools, they will be performing at Morgantown Elementary on September  10, at 8:30a.m. for 350 students in grades 3-5 and at North Butler on September 20, at 9:00a.m., for 300 students in grades K-5.

The program features three of very popular pre-teen and teenage puppets: Eddy Franklin-age 10, Clare Sanchez-age 14, and Melody James- age 11.

For some schools violence and crime are minor issues and are rare, but for others it can be a daily occurrence. Nonetheless, the threat of any kind of violence may keep students out of school or away from after-school activities and create a climate of fear within the school. Often, fear of violence comes at the hands of the school bully. Bullying has long been considered a natural part of growing up. However, today’s children are faced with an ever-growing number of stresses. The stress of teasing, name calling, social stigmatization and physical bullying may send a child into a severe depression or cause them to live in constant fear that the bullying will continue. With results like these, it is crucial that adults prevent, intervene, and assume responsibility for stopping this behavior so school will be a safe place.

The Kids on the Block Program on Bullies and School Safety is designed to create awareness of what constitutes  bullying, present problem solving strategies, encourage empathy for the targets of bullies, and explore ways that students may be involved in promoting safety in their school.

Program sponsors are:  Butler County Judge Executive David and Virginia Fields, Butler County Board of Education, Beech Tree News/WLBQ 1570, Logan Telephone,  Mayor Linda and Bobby Keown, Green River DAR and the Farm Bureau Board.
