Kelli Fugate to fill remainder of jailer term following the death of Wayne Russ
Butler County Judge-Executive Tim Flener has named Kelli Fugate to serve as Butler County Jailer for the remainder of the the term of Jailer Wayne Russ, who unexpectedly died last week. Below is the full statement from Judge Flener in announcing the appointment.
"This message is not an easy one to share, nor is it something I ever expected to face. I was not prepared for circumstances like these or for the responsibility of making such a significant decision. Before anything else, I want each of you to know that my thoughts and prayers remain with Wayne’s family. This has been an incredibly difficult time for everyone. I, too, am devastated by the reality before us. Yet I also believe that if Wayne had the chance to speak to us today, he would reassure us that where he is now is where we all aspire to be. We can only imagine the peaceful roads he walks today. We loved Wayne deeply, and we want his family to know that we are here for them in every way, from the bottom of our hearts.
This decision was not made lightly. All deputies were given thoughtful and thorough consideration from the moment I was informed the responsibility rested with me. Every factor was evaluated, including availability to serve around the clock when needed, certifications, experience, and overall readiness. My sincere hope is that every decision I make reflects what is best for our county, and I take that responsibility with great seriousness.
With that said, I am announcing that Kelli Fugate will serve as Butler County Jailer for the remainder of this term. She will be sworn in at the beginning of Butler County Fiscal Court Meeting tonight. Kelli has faithfully served the Butler County Jail for over 26 years and brings extensive training, certifications, and experience that were key in this decision.
Certifications:
-First Aid & CPR
-Taser
-OPN
-Advance K-9 Handling
-Drug Interdiction
-Weapons
-PREA
-40 Hours Training Each Year
Please join me in prayer for Kelli as she steps into this role, and in continued prayer for Wayne’s family as we continue to honor his legacy and service."
