KACo and County Offcials Visit MES

The Kentucky Association of Counties (KACo) visited Morgantown Elementary on Thursday and gave a special presentation to the third and fourth graders. Each student was given a County Government Booklet, which contains puzzles, fill in the blanks, coloring pages, and activities to introduce county government to the students.

“This booklet is designed to help teach county government civics to elementary students. The goals of the project are simple: to present the importance and functionality of county governments to Kentucky students and to unite schools with their respective county government officials,” said Denny Nunnelley, Executive Director, KACo.

Butler County officials, Judge David Fields, Jailer Terry Fugate, PVA Elect Suzanne Bronson, Clerk Shirley E. Givens, Sheriff Scottie Ward, and Magistrate Stevie Givens spoke with the students concerning the duties of their office.

“We are proud to be able to offer the booklet to the students and provide teachers with a lesson plan which aligns with current social studies standards,” said Brian Roy, Deputy Director of KACo.

The booklet was illustrated by Mark Wayne Adams, formerly of Dawson Springs, who gave a special presentation to the students about his profession.  Adams has authored three books and illustrated over forty books.   Adams shared his story of how he was inspired to chase his entrepreneurial dream in the 3rd grade by selling drawings to classmates.

Creating books and inspiring others has always been his passion and was clear during his presentation. Adams gave several autographed drawings to students during the presentation.
