Johnson Picks Up Win for EKU

Freshman Caleb Johnson tossed 6-plus strong innings to lead the Eastern Kentucky University baseball team to an 8-5 win over preseason Ohio Valley Conference favorite Tennessee Tech in the series finale on Sunday.

Johnson (1-0), making his second collegiate start, turned in his first career quality start. He allowed one run on five hits in six and two-thirds innings. Johnson walked one and struck out one.

On February 21st, Eastern Kentucky stayed close to No. 5 South Carolina, but lost 4-0 on Friday in the opener of the three-game series.

Johnson came on with two outs in the fifth and retired all seven batters he faced. He pitched two and one third hitless innings and struck out one.

Johnson is the son of Todd and Julie Johnson of Lexington and the grandson of Diddle and Sandy Johnson and Jerry and Mary Fleming.
