Dean Mary John O'Hair, Jim Green, Tracy Thornton Cowles, UK President Eli Capilouto.

The University Of Kentucky College Of Education Teachers Who Made a Difference Program got its start in 1998 as part of the College’s 75th anniversary celebration. With more than 100 teachers honored that year and the overwhelming support from the UK campus and community, the College of Education decided to make it an annual event. In its 15 years, more than 1,900 educators have been honored.

Educators were invited April 27, 2013, to a breakfast reception and program at the UK Student Center Great Hall and Center Theater. Entertainment was provided by the cast of Les Miserables from the School for the Creative and Performing Arts in Lexington, Ky. Honorees and their guests also were treated to remarks from UK President Eli Capilouto and Coach Matthew Mitchell. The program was rounded out by the recognition of the honorees and the presentation of certificates to those in attendance.

Teachers are exceptional people! They stimulate our minds, they encourage and challenge us, they support us, and they inspire us to become who we want to be. That is the reason Mr. Jim Green was nominated for the 2013 Teachers Who Made a Difference Award. Mr. Green has been very instrumental in several of the lives of Butler County youth, through his teaching, coaching, and his job as administrator. Mr. Green is currently serving as the Principle of the Green River School. He was nominated by Tracy Thornton Cowles.  In his nomination application, it was stated the “Mr. Green cares for the youth as if they were his own. He guides them and encourages them to succeed in all things they attempt. He goes above and beyond the call of duty.”
