Jenkins, Neighbors, & Pierson State Bound
On Saturday November 5th, the Butler County Varsity Cross-Country team competed in the Class 2A Region 2 meet at Ephram White park in Bowling Green, Kentucky.
For the girls Varsity team, 8th grader Olivia Neighbors came in 5th in the Region with a time of 21:40 to lead the way for Butler County and earn a trip back to the state championship meet. Maranda Pierson, 8th grader, finished 12th overall in the region with a time of 22:21and was able to earn her first trip to the state championship meet. Chanda Hampton, 10th grader, came in 18th in the region with a time of 22:42. Hannah Perry, 7th grader, earned the 25th position in the region with a time of 23:09. Amy Rogers, 10th grader, was the 5th finisher for Butler County and was 45th overall with a time of 25:04. Emma Robbins, 8th grader, finished the race 51st with a time of 25:53. The girls team missed going to state by 3 points.
The boys Varsity team had a great showing with several runners achieving season best times. Ethan Jenkins, 10th grader, finished 14th overall with a time of 18:32 and thus qualifying to advance to the state championship meet for his second year in a row. Cameron Price, 8th grader, finished 24th overall with a time of 19:21 and missed a trip to state by 2 spots. Also finishing strong for the boys team was Matthew Embry (19:49), Barry Washer (20:07), Drew Henderson (20:35), and Jacob Mudd (23:39).
The three individual runners advancing to state competition will be racing Saturday November 12th at the Kentucky Horse Park in Lexington, Kentucky. Good luck to these athletes and congratulations on a great season!
