Jarrod Jacobs: "Happy New Year!"

2022 is upon us, and it is a year yet untouched by men’s mistakes. Thus far, it is free of worry, care, death, disease, and destruction. As we think of the possibilities that lie before us, what will we do with this new year? Some make plans and call them “resolutions,” while others have made no plans at all for the new year. Sadly, many of those who make plans never implement them!

Do not be like the majority who make plans, but give up by the end of the month! Instead, take advantage of this new year by doing something important for your soul! Do the most important thing you can do and become a Christian. Based upon what you have heard in the gospel (Rom. 10:17), believe in Jesus as the Son of God (Jn. 8:24). Repent of your sins (Lk. 13:3), confess your faith in Christ (Rom. 10:10), and be baptized for the remission of sin (Acts 2:38). In so doing, you can be a Christian (Acts 11:26). You can enjoy spiritual blessings “in Christ” (Eph. 1:3). You can have fellowship with the Lord (II Jn. 9) and look forward to Heaven one day when this life is over (Matt. 25:31-46)!

What the Bible teaches us to do will make 2022 the happiest year of all. You can enjoy the happiest year if you repent and become a child of God! Just as God told the Israelites that there was a new year starting when they left Egypt, so you will enjoy a true “new year” when you leave sin and Satan behind and determine to serve God. When you are “born again” (Jn. 3:5) as we described in detail above, and then “grow in grace and in the knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ” (II Pet. 3:18; I Pet. 2:2), you will enjoy a new year! When this is your goal and aim this year (Col. 3:1-4), then you will undoubtedly make 2022 a happy year!

Please do not misunderstand. Following the Lord’s plan means we will be happy (Acts 8:39; Rev. 22:14), but this doesn’t mean everyone else will be pleased with our decision (Jn. 15:18-21; Titus 3:12)! It may be that making this decision makes others mad. Still, we cannot let their feelings about Christ and salvation keep us from doing what is right (Matt. 10:37-39). We cannot allow someone’s hard looks or sharp tongue to stop us from doing the most important thing we can do!

Have you followed the Lord’s plan of salvation? If not, why not? Make your plans today to make 2022 the best year ever. This is only possible when you are a Christian and have all of your sins washed away (Acts 22:16). Submit to the Lord (Gal. 2:20). Serve Him all the days of your life (I Cor. 15:58), and see the blessings that come to you now and in the future (Eph. 1:3)!

Don’t waste any more time (Eph. 5:16; II Cor. 6:2). In 2022, visit us at Caneyville and learn about the Savior!
