Infant child found in the middle of Beaver Dam Road

On March 13 at approximately 11:34 p.m. the Butler County Sheriff’s Office was dispatched to Beaver Dam Rd.  Upon arriving on the scene, Deputy Nathan Barks observed an infant child lying in the middle of Beaver Dam Rd., with a bystander trying to render aid.  Marie Michelle Depoorter was located next to the guardrail and was not making any sense with her statements.  She claimed the baby’s father had killed himself, and she wanted the baby to die as well.  Depoorter claimed she was under the influence of methamphetamines, which she was forced to take.  The infant child was found to be suffering from a large abrasion to her head from being slammed onto the pavement. The infant child was also bleeding from her feet and was cold to the touch.  Depoorter intentionally placed the infant child in danger of serious physical injury/death with her actions.  DCBS was contacted, the infant was taken to the hospital by Butler County EMS for treatment.  The father of the child was located at 139 Boys Camp Rd. and was unaware that Depoorter had removed the child from the home.

Depoorter was lodged in the Butler County Jail.  She is charged with public intoxication – controlled substance (excludes alcohol), criminal abuse 1st degree – child 12 or under, and disorderly conduct 1st degree. Butler County Sheriff Deputies Nathan Barks, Talon Gary, and Butler County EMS responded to the scene.
