Industrial Development Board outlines plan for county's 40-acre purchase

The Industrial Development Authority Board made a presentation at the last Butler County Fiscal Court meeting.  Jason Jones and Denny Drake made the presentation recommending that the fiscal court purchase 40 acres within the Morgantown city limits (Steamboat /Marina tract) for $315,000 from Bruce White.  The court approved the purchase.

According to Jones, the purchase is seen as a strategic buy for recreation/tourism and economic development.

“Acquiring 40 acres along the Green River would provide Butler County with a valuable, multi-use outdoor asset that enhances both quality of life and long-term community development," said Jones.  "The property's natural riverfront offers excellent fishing and scenic views, attracting residents and visitors alike. At the same time, the inclusion of both a biking and walking trail would support health, recreation, and eco-tourism."

"Investing in this property would not only preserve a beautiful stretch of the Green River but also generate economic and recreational benefits that will strengthen the community for years to come,” added Drake.

Possibilities could include:

-Recreational boating, kayaking, canoeing, and a potential boat launch area

-Pavilion/bath house

-Triathlons or mini triathlons

-Walking and mountain bike trails

-Benched Riverbank Fishing

-Strategic location between Woodbury and Leonard Oak Park

-Possible connectivity with the City of Morgantown
