The city of Morgantown's Industrial Holding Corporation (I.H.C) held a called meeting on Thursday, January 8, at the Eva J. Hawes Building.  All I.H.C. members, who are also the members of the Morgantown City Council, were present.
The first item on the agenda was election of president and secretary of the I.H.C.  Gary Southerland was elected president and Dionne Merritt was elected secretary of the I.H.C. with all members voting in favor.
Council member Southerland made it clear to everyone in attendance that he would not sign any papers without the city attorney looking over them first.
Next, Mayor Billy Phelps explained that according to the contract, the full purchase price, $65,000, on the Exie Hawes property is due on March 1, 2015.  No provisions had been made in the I.H.C. budget  for the payment.
“I have talked with the Hawes family and they have agreed to payments of $6,000 per month starting in February,” said Mayor Phelps.
The I.H.C. voted to start the payments in February.  Council member Dionne Merritt abstained from the vote due to a family connection in the property.
Mayor Phelps informed I.H.C. members that he had secured the Kentucky Copper property.
“We (the city) have taken control of the building and a meeting with Kentucky Copper officials is scheduled for January 15th.
With no further items on the agenda, the meeting was adjourned.
