Hunt rushes for over 1,000 yards

MORGANTOWN — Senior Brody Hunt reached a milestone for Butler County during the 2022 high school football season, rushing for over 1,000 yards. 

 Thriving on the ground for the Bears, Hunt rushed 106 times for 1,008 yards and 12 touchdowns in 11 games. 

Among the top high school football players in Class 2A, Hunt led Butler County throughout the 2022 high school football season.

The Bears excelled on the ground, averaging 234.6 rushing yards and 3.3 rushing touchdowns per game. 

Ranking second in rushing for the Bears, Colton Dunnells rushed 154 times for 944 yards and 15 touchdowns.

Contributing to Butler County's rushing attack, Keagen Grubb took 46 carries for 296 yards and two touchdowns. 

Butler County completed 83 of 137 passes for 919 yards and seven touchdowns while throwing seven interceptions. Garrett Phelps paced Butler County through the air, completing 80 of 125 passes for 900 yards and seven touchdowns. Phelps threw six interceptions. 

Grubb emerged as Butler County's leading receiver, hauling in 31 receptions for 424 yards and two touchdowns.

Finishing second in receiving for the Bears, Luke Laughing reeled in 18 receptions for 155 yards and two touchdowns. 

The Bears managed to outscore opponents 318-162.

Carson Miller led Butler County defensively, recording a team-high 112 tackles for the Bears. Behind Miller, Dunnells recorded 100 tackles. 

Ranking as Butler County's third-leading tackler, Devon Poston tallied 97 tackles.

Pacing Butler County in another key defensive category, Hunt recorded seven interceptions. 

After making an appearance in the Class 2A UK HealthCare Sports Medicine State Football Finals, Butler County exited the 2022 season 8-3. It was Butler County's fifth eight-win season.
