HS FOOTBALL PREVIEW: BCHS Bears 2024

The Butler County Bears' varsity football program 2024 takes on a new look in coaching staff, and players.  BCHS Football has a history of fifty-nine years of high school football. The program began in 1966 and played all games at the old football game field behind Morgantown Elementary School from 1966-1996. 

           

The Bears moved into the new football facility at the BCHS campus and began playing on campus in 1997. The 2024 edition of the Bears are under the new leadership of head coach Joshua Robins. Assistant Coaches on staff this year are Roscoe Bratcher, Austin Flener, Cole Tynes, Jagger Henderson, and Ryan Emmick. 

 

The roster by class is listed below:


Seniors – Trevor DeWeese, Clayton DeWeese, Garrett Phelps, Kellon Meredith, Briar Griffin, Lonnie Phelps, Tucker DeJarnette, Brock Pfingston, Reece Filback, Braydon McKinney, Jase Johnson. 

 

Juniors:  Jett Johnson, Nicholas Francisco, Clay Steff, Benjamin Clark, Will Amos, Cayden Taylor, Zander Stokes, Christian White.

             

Sophomores:  Maddox Moore, Kevin Robins, Xavier Johnson, Eli Oaks, Jase Martin, Larson Faux, Cainan Vincent.


Freshmen: Sam Lewis, Jax Pendley, Felix Francisco, Caleb Brown, Bentley Beesley, Drake Bratcher, Mason Ashby. 


As the team enters the 2024 season, here’s some quick facts on the BCHS Football Program. The Bears are in Class 3A/District 2 in football. The KHSAA football is broken into (6) classes. Class 3A has (39) schools based on student enrollment. BCHS was forced to move from Class 2A to Class 3A last year in 2023. 

Regular season district games will be Adair Co HS, Franklin Simpson HS, Hart Co. HS, and Glasgow HS. 



Below is a scouting report for all Butler County opponents in 2024: 


Week #1- Logan Co. Cougars, Class 4A finished (8-4) last season, QB Ridge Holman, junior sensation returns to lead the Cougars throwing for 2,405 yards and (24) TD passes & top wide receiver senior Brady Hinton returns.


Week #2- Webster Co. Trojans, Class 3A finished (6-5) last season, RB Jackson Edens, a senior rushing for 1,006 yards returns to build on last season. 


Week #3- Warren Central Dragons, Class 6A finished (1-10) last season, but the Class 6A Dragons are athletic and physical, and look like they are going to rebound. 


Week #4- Grayson Co. Cougars, Class 5A finished (10-2) last season, returning are Kolby Chaffins-QB senior & Kadin Hanshaw -RB sophomore workhorse rushed for 1,369 yards & (23) rushing TDs in 2023. 


Week #5- Hart Co. Raiders, Class 3A finished (13-1) last season, district and regional champion and did not lose until the Class 3A semifinals, only one game away from the Class 3A State championship game. Hart Co. returns (19) seniors, but must replace all skill position players. 


Week #6 Franklin-Simpson Wildcats, Class 3A finished (9-3) last season. Colin Anderson, a senior & Blake McPherson a junior, both running backs ran for 600 yards rushing and led FS's strong ground game attack. Franklin-Simpson won back-to-back State Championships in Class 4A in 2017 and 2018 but recent enrollment changes allowed F-S to drop to Class 3A. 


Week #7 Bardstown Bethlehem Eagles, Class A finished (4-8) last season. QB Jack Bradley, a sophomore, leads the team and hopes to improve on the 2024 campaign. 


Week #8 Adair Co. Indians, Class 3A finished (7-4) last season.  Senior Lane Grant -QB leads the team coming off last season 1,500 yards passing and 1,500 yards rushing & (20) rushing TDs. 


Week #9 Glasgow Scotties, Class 3A finished (9-3) last season.   Senior QB-Easton Jessie, & Junior RB-Cameron Bulle both return. Jessie threw for 2,164 yards & (21) TD passes. Bulle leads the run game with 546 yards rushing. 

 

Week #10 Ohio Co. Eagles- Class 5A finished (1-10) last season. The Eagles in a 5A power district will again struggle to find wins in 2024.
