HS FOOTBALL: Bears to visit Bethlehem for non-district game

MORGANTOWN — Butler County is set to visit Bethlehem for a non-district game on Friday, Sept. 29. 

The Bears will be looking to halt a five-game losing skid in the non-district matchup. 

Butler County and Bethlehem are unfamiliar foes. The Bears and Eagles did not meet during the 2022 high school football season.

Butler County is 1-5 overall and 0-2 in Class 3A, District 2. The Bears notched a win over Russellville in a season opener. But since the season opener, Butler County has dropped five straight games to Webster County, Warren Central, Grayson County, Hart County and Franklin-Simpson. 

The Bears are averaging 208 total yards per game. Butler County quarterback Garrett Phelps has completed 54 passes for 668 yards and four touchdowns in six games.

Bethlehem is 3-3 overall and 0-1 in Class 1A, District 2. The Eagles have posted wins over Marshall County, Carroll County and Washington County. 

Bethlehem has suffered losses to Adair County, Lloyd Memorial and Campbellsville.

The Eagles are averaging 316 total yards per game. Through its first six games, Bethlehem has rushed 172 times for 1,073 yards and 12 touchdowns.

Butler County has regular season games remaining versus Bethlehem, Adair County, Glasgow and Ohio County. 

Kickoff for the Butler County-Bethlehem game is set for 7:30 p.m. in Bardstown. The game will be live on WLBQ.
