Hot Rods Walk-Off Braves 4-3 In Ninth-Straight Win

Trevino plays hero with walk-off in 9th to extend streak 

Bowling Green, Kentucky– Luis Trevino hit a walk-off single to lead the Bowling Green Hot Rods (47-21) to their ninth straight victory in a 4-3 win over the Rome Braves (33-35) on Wednesday at Bowling Green Ballpark in  Bowling Green, Kentucky. The two teams play the third game of a six-game series on Thursday with a 6:35 PM CT first pitch. 

The Hot Rods scored two runs in the top of the first against Rome starter Jared Shuster. Pedro Martinez singled with one out and advanced to second on a stolen base. One out later, Jacson McGowan doubled to score Martinez and give the Hot Rods a 1-0 lead. Grant Witherspoon followed McGowan with a triple, plating McGowan and increasing Bowling Green’s edge to 2-0. 

Rome made it a 2-1 game after Rusber Estrada scored on Riley Delgado’s single in the fifth, but the Hot Rods extended their lead in the bottom of the inning. Jones led off the frame with a solo blast off Matt Hartman, his 12th of the season, that went 408-feet over the left-center wall to put Bowling Green in front with a 3-1 advantage.  

The Braves plated another run in the sixth to draw closer, eventually tying the game in the top of the ninth against Hot Rods reliever Carlos Garcia. Bowling Green came up to the plate in the ninth inning to face Braves reliever Tyler Ferguson. Connor Hollis led off with a single and advanced to second on a sacrifice bunt by Hill Alexander. In the next at-bat, Trevino singled to center, scoring Hollis and walking off the Braves 4-3. 

Evan McKendry pitched a perfect first inning with two strikeouts in a no-decision. Trageton hurled 5.0 innings, allowing two runs on four hits, walking three and striking out five. Garcia tossed 2.1 innings, giving up three hits and one run with three strikeouts in a blown save. Colby White (1-2) pitched a perfect two outs and picked up his first win of the season.  


Notes: Trageton tied his season-high with 5.0 innings pitched… This is the sixth time this season he has tossed 5.0 innings… Hollis collected his seventh multi-hit game of the year… Trevino had his sixth multi-hit performance of the season… His walk-off single is the first for the Hot Rods since June 29th… This is a season-high ninth consecutive win for the Hot Rods… Bowling Green extended their season-high win streak to nine games… This is also their third straight win over Rome… The Hot Rods are 18-8 overall this season against the Braves… BG is 29-12 when scoring first… They are 11-8 in one-run games… Bowling Green is 8-2 in day games… Bowling Green and Rome play again on Thursday with a 6:35 PM CT first pitch… The Hot Rods send RH Michael Mercado (1-4, 6.22) to the mound against Rome LH Mitch Stallings (0-2, 5.57)… Fans can catch all of the action by watching on or listening through the MiLB First Pitch app, tuning into WBGN 94.5 FM and 1340 AM, or visiting
