Curet Tosses Four Scoreless in Bowling Green 3-0 Loss


Yoniel Curet picked up four strikeouts over 4.0 shutout innings, but the Bowling Green Hot Rods (1-2) logged just two hits in a 3-0 loss to the Hudson Valley Renegades (2-1) on Sunday from Bowling Green Ballpark.

Hudson Valley broke a scoreless game in the top of the sixth against Bowling Green reliever Jake Christianson. Jesus Rodriguez and Josh Moylan tagged back-to-back singles to put runners on first and second. Garrett Martin doubled, moving Moylan to third and scoring Rodriguez from to make it 1-0. Alexander Vargas drove in Moylan on an RBI sacrifice fly, extending the lead, 2-0. Jared Serna homered off Christianson in the seventh to put Hudson Valley up 3-0. 

The Hot Rods offense went scoreless the rest of the way, falling to the Renegades, 3-0.

Curet struck out four, walked three, and allowed a hit over 4.0 scoreless frames. Christianson (0-1) took the loss, letting up three runs on four hits, three walks, and three strikeouts over 2.2 innings. T.J. Fondtain tossed a shutout 1.1 innings, allowing a hit and striking out two in the process. Jack Hartman pitched a scoreless ninth, striking out two and allowing a hit. 

Bowling Green has an off-day on Monday before traveling to Fluor Field to take on the Greenville Drive for a six-game series. First pitch is set for Tuesday at 6:05 PM CT.

Cook fans six, Hot Rods fall 14-2

Bowling Green held to one hit, work seven walks in loss


Alex Cook punched out six batters over 4.0 innings, but the Bowling Green Hot Rods (1-1) bats went cold in a 14-2 loss to the Hudson Valley Renegades (1-1) on Saturday from Bowling Green Ballpark.

Hudson Valley began the scoring off Cook in the top of the first with a lead-off solo home run by Jared Serna, putting the Renegades up 1-0.

Bowling Green answered back in the bottom of the second against Renegades starter Kyle Carr. Tatem Levins walked, Brock Jones doubled, and Blake Robertson walked to load the bases. Jhon Diaz worked a walk, scoring Levins to tie the game, 1-1. A passed ball by catcher Omar Martinez allowed Jones to score from third and put Bowling Green up, 2-1.

In the top of the third, Serna walked and Jesus Rodriguez singled to put runners on the corners. Martinez knocked a single to right, moving Rodriguez to third and scoring Serna to make it 2-2. Garrett Martin put the Renegades up 3-2, scoring Martinez on an RBI single.

The Renegades opened it up to a 14-2 lead off Hot Rods relievers Jonny Cuevas and Jeff Hakanson after scoring a combined 11 runs in the fifth, sixth, and seventh innings. The 11 runs were highlighted by a solo homer from Martinez in the fifth, and two-run blast by Rafael Flores in the seventh. 

The Hot Rods went scoreless the rest of the way, losing by a final score of 14-2.

Cook (0-1) took the loss, striking out six and letting up three runs on five hits and two walks over 4.0 frames. Cuevas allowed five runs (three earned) on four hits and a walk while recording two outs. Hakanson tossed 2.0 innings, letting up six runs (five earned) on four hits, two walks, and a strikeout. Nate Dahle picked up a strikeout over 1.1 scoreless innings and Sandy Gaston threw a scoreless ninth.

Hot Rods Steal Franchise Record Seven Bases, Take Opening Day 6-1

Simpson swipes three bags, Isaac drives in three for first win of the season


The Bowling Green Hot Rods (1-0) swiped a franchise record seven steals and Trevor Martin struck out nine batters to beat the Hudson Valley Renegades (0-1) 6-1 on Opening Day from Bowling Green Ballpark.

Bowling Green took the lead in the bottom of the first off Hudson Valley starter Sebastian Keane. Chandler Simpson led off with a walk, stole second, and scored on a single by Xavier Isaac. Cooper Kinney doubled to right, scoring Isaac to increase the lead, 2-0. Kinney scored on a sacrifice fly off the bat of Hunter Haas to make it a 3-0 ballgame. Brock Jones worked a walk, swiped second, and was plated on an RBI base hit from Tatem Levins to put Bowling Green up 4-0. Jesus Rodriguez homered off Martin in the top of the second to cut the Hot Rods lead to 4-1. 

The Hot Rods scored again in the bottom of the sixth against Renegades reliever Matt Keating. Blake Robertson reached on a fielder’s choice, Simpson singled, and Brayden Taylor walked to load the bases. Isaac notched a base hit to left, scoring Robertson and Simpson to put Bowling Green up 6-1.

In the ninth, Kyle Whitten tossed a clean frame that pushed Bowling Green to a 6-1 victory.

 

Martin picked up the win, allowing a run, five hits, and struck out nine over 5.0 innings of work. J.J. Goss pitched 2.0 scoreless frames, letting up two hits and striking out three. Drew Sommers tossed a scoreless eighth and Whitten punched out two during a scoreless ninth.
