Homecoming at Monticello

Higher Ground performs

Sunday morning August 5th, Monticello celebrated its annual homecoming.  Bro. Randy Burns gave a short welcome before introducing bluegrass-gospel group Higher Ground.  This marked the fifth consecutive year of the group performing at our homecoming. The church is 207 years old.

Their approximately 45 minute set included standards such as "Gone Home" and "Will The Circle Be Unbroken" among many others.  They also performed some originals.  After the performance, a break, another song, and a great message by Bro. Burns, we all met in the church’s newly renovated basement where we feasted on barbeque from Roy’s in Russellville.  Attendees brought various side items and desserts to complete the meal.

As luck would have it, homecoming happened to fall on my grandmother’s 90th birthday.  So, of course one of the desserts was a birthday cake.  Afterwards I said to her, "quite a birthday, wasn’t it?"

All who attended the homecoming truly received a blessing through the music, message, and meal.
