HIGH SCHOOL FOOTBALL: Bears falter late, drop game to Warren Central

BOWLING GREEN — Visiting Butler County faltered late as Warren Central battled back from behind to win 40-26 in a non-district high school football game on Friday, Sept. 1. 

Each high school football team took a 1-2 record out of the game. 

Warren Central thrived early, outscoring the Bears 16-13 in the first quarter.

But Butler County battled back, outscoring Warren Central 13-0 in the second period. 

 

Warren Central clung to a 16-13 at halftime before falling behind after the break. 

Butler County returned to the endzone in the third quarter to move ahead 20-16.

However, Butler County's lead was short-lived as Warren Central outscored the Bears 24-6 in the fourth quarter to claim the non-district win. 

Zarionte Howard led Warren Central through the air, completing eight of 15 passes for 121 yards and one touchdown.

Dakota Hunter was on the receiving end of Howard's scoring strike, hauling in a 47-yard touchdown pass reception. 

On the ground, Warren Central rushed 29 times for 205 yards and three touchdowns. 

Devontre Patterson paced Warren Central on the ground, rushing nine times for 103 yards and two touchdowns. 

Aiding Warren Central on the ground, Howard added one rushing touchdown for the Dragons. 

Garrett Phelps led Bulter County, delivering two rushing touchdowns for the Bears. 

Aiding Butler County on the ground, Lonnie Phelps and Gage Beasley added one rushing touchdown apiece. 

Butler County is scheduled to visit Grayson County for another non-district game at 7 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 8.
