HIGH SCHOOL BASKETBALL: Bears, Lady Bears to visit Whitesville Trinity for district games

MORGANTOWN - The Butler County Bears and Lady Bears are preparing to visit Whitesville Trinity High School for a 12th District basketball doubleheader on Friday, Dec. 7. 

A look at each 12th District matchup pitting Butler County versus Whitesville Trinity follows. 

Boys: Butler County will be looking to claim its second straight win on the road at Whitesville Trinity in a 12th District boys' basketball game on Friday. 

The Bears are 1-2. After dropping back-to-back games to Metcalfe County and Glasgow, Butler County beat Lyon County 78-59 on Friday, Nov. 30.

Metcalfe County pulled away to beat the Bears 89-71 in a boys' high school basketball season opener on Monday, Nov. 26. Then, one day later, Glasgow beat the Bears 79-41 on Tuesday, Nov. 27. 

Parker Rice and Jaden Hurt are combining to lead Butler County. Rice is averaging 23.3 points and 9.0 rebounds per game for the Bears. Accompanying Rice in double figures, Hurt is averaging 17.7 points and 7.7 rebounds per game. 

Whitesville Trinity is 2-1. The Raiders have notched wins over Cloverport and reigning region champion Apollo. Whitesville Trinity has dropped a game to Henderson County. 

Trinity rolled past Cloverport 70-32 in a season opener on Tuesday, Nov. 27.

Henderson County dealt Trinity a loss on Thursday, Nov. 29, outlasting the Raiders 64-60.

Three Trinity players are averaging double figures in scoring. Trenton Morris (15.7 ppg) Joe Brown (12.3 ppg) and Cameron Wright (11.0 ppg, 12. 7 ppg) are combining to lead the Raiders. 

Tip-off for the Butler County-Trinity boys' basketball game is set for 7:30 p.m.

Girls: Butler County will be looking to halt a two-game losing skid on the road at Whitesville Trinity in a 12th District girls' basketball game on Friday, Dec. 7.

The Lady Bears are 1-2 but have dropped back-to-back games. After upending Hancock County on the road in a season opener on Monday, Nov. 26, Butler County has lost games to Russellville and Muhlenberg County. 

Russellville defeated the Lady Bears 40-33 on Friday, Nov. 30.

Then, less than 24 hours later, Muhlenberg County pulled away to beat the Lady Bears 69-45 in the First State Bank Tip Off Classic on Saturday, Dec. 1.

Jaelyn Taylor, Maddie Cardwell and Gracie Cardwell combine to lead the Lady Bears. 

Whitesville Trinity is 3-1. The Lady Raiders have notched wins over Cloverport, Fort Campbell and Cannelton (Ind.). Graves County has dealt Whitesville Trinity its lone loss thus far in the 2018-19 girls' high school basketball season.

The Lady Raiders pulled away to beat host Cloverport 65-46 in a season opener on Tuesday Nov. 27.

But Graves County dominated two days later, topping Whittesville Trinity 75-27 in the Marshall County Hoopfest. 

Whitesville Trinity bounced back to win a pair of games in the Trinity Shootout November 30-December 1, downing Fort Campbell 69-8 and Cannelton (Ind.) 66-36.

Tip-off for the Butler County-Trinity girls' basketball game is set for 6 p.m.  Both games will be live on WLBQ 101.5.
