Hernandez Homers, Leads BG to 6-5 Win in 10 Innings

Outfielder has three hits for second-straight night 

Rome, Georgia– Heriberto Hernandez had three hits, including a homer, for the Bowling Green Hot Rods (31-19) in a 6-5 win over 10 innings against the Rome Braves (28-23) on Sunday afternoon in Rome, Georgia. The Hot Rods have an off day on Monday before starting a six-game series on Tuesday at Bowling Green Ballpark with the Hickory Crawdads.  

The Braves put the first run of the game on the board in the third when Justyn-Henry Malloy hit a two-out homer to give Rome a 1-0 advantage. Rome added another run on a bases-loaded hit by pitch in the fifth to extend their lead to 2-0. 

BG posted four runs against Braves reliever Jake McSteen in the sixth to take the lead. Dru Baker singled and scored when Osleivis Basabe tripled off the wall in right to make it a 2-1 game. With one out, Tanner Murray walked and Hernandez singled to left, plating Basabe to tie the game. Logan Driscoll reached on a fielder’s choice ground ball to second, but a throwing error allowed Murray to score, and another error scored Hernandez to give BG a 4-2 advantage.  

The Braves plated a pair of runs to tie the game in the seventh, but BG got the first long ball of the series in the eighth to take the lead back. Hernandez blasted a one-out homer to left, putting the Hot Rods up 5-4, but the Braves quickly tied the game in the bottom of the inning. The Hot Rods loaded the bases in the 10th and took the lead on a wild pitch at 6-5, locking in a series win by the same score. 

Workman allowed one run on three hits with two walks, a hit batsman, and three strikeouts over 4.0 innings in a no-decision. Graeme Stinson pitched 1.0 innings, hitting two batters and allowing a run with two walks and two strikeouts. Sean Mullen blew a save and allowed two runs, one earned, on two hits with a walk and a strikeout in 2.0 frames. Joe La Sorsa (4-3) blew a save and earned a win after striking out four over 2.0 innings while allowing one run on two hits. Matthew Peguero threw two pitches before leaving the game. Audry Lugo earned a save throwing a perfect 1.0 inning.  

Notes: Hernandez had his second-straight multi-hit game of the series… It was his ninth multi-hit game of the year… Hernandez had his first extra-base hit since May 12… Hernandez is still amongst the top-10 in the SAL in extra-base hits in 2022… BG is 7-8 in day games… They’re 11-7 in games decided by one run this season… The Hot Rods are 7-5 against Rome in 2022… They also lead the all-time series 36-18… The Hot Rods and Hickory Crawdads begin a six-game series on Tuesday with a 6:35 PM CT first pitch at Bowling Green Ballpark...  Fans can listen to the game on Talk 104.1 FM and 930 AM WKCT beginning with the Hot Rods Gameday at 6:05 PM CT… Fans can also listen via the MiLB First Pitch app on Android and IOS, or go to the Hot Rods website at www.bghotrods.com...
