Help the Butler County Chapter of NSDAR celebrate Constitution Week

By ringing your bells, help us celebrate Constitution Week, September 17-23. Bells Across America is an annual celebration of the signing of the United States Constitution. Participants gather to ring bells for one minute, much as the church bells and out when the United States Constitution was first signed on September 17, 1778, at 4:00 pm EDT.

The United States Constitution is America's most important document. It stands as a testament to the tenacity of Americans throughout history to maintain their liberties, freedoms, and inalienable rights. Constitution Week is celebrated annually from September 17-23 to commemorate its historical importance and bring attention to how it serves today.

The celebration of the Constitution was started by the Daughters of the American Revolution in 1955, DAR petitioned Congress to set aside September 17-23 annually to be dedicated for the observance of Constitution Week. The resolution was later adopted by the United States Congress and signed into law on August 2, 1956, by President Dwight Eisenhower.

The Constitution Week celebration aims to emphasize citizens' responsibilities for protecting and defending the Constitution, inform people that the Constitution is the basis of America's great heritage and the foundation for our way of life, and encourage the study of the historical events that led to the framing of the Constitution in 1787. The DAR has also erected a structure built in tribute to the Constitution of the United States, DAR Constitution Hall, a performing arts center opened in 1929.
