Becky Hankins was honored with the Green River Museum Impact Award on Sunday afternoon, July 26. This prestigious award recognizes individuals who have made, changed, or preserved history in Butler County. Past recipients include Captain W.S. Overstreet, George Dabbs, Peggy Drake, Charles T. Black, and others.

Becky’s parents, Bill and Regina Hood, moved to Butler County in 1949, where they opened a successful hardware store and raised their family. She graduated from Butler County High School in 1971 and from Western Kentucky University in 1975. Her teaching career began at Morgantown Elementary, where she taught for 33 years, primarily second grade students.

Becky married Craig Hankins in 1973 and together they had three children: Russell Craig Hankins, Robert William Hankins, and Shira Beth Hankins Hughes. She is also the proud grandmother of ten grandchildren.

Becky has been actively involved in numerous organizations, including the American Cancer Society Relay for Life, South Central Kentucky American Red Cross, Butler County Boys and Girls Club, Green River Catfish Festival, National Day of Prayer, Tourism Commission, Morgantown-Butler County Chamber of Commerce, and the Antique Shop Homemakers. She plays a central role in the annual fifth grade history tour, leading the segment on Butler County High School history.

She has been recognized statewide for her involvement in county and city beauty pageants. Last year, she was named Honorary Miss Morgantown.

Becky is an active member of Morgantown Methodist Church, where she serves as church historian and choir member.

Becky has positively impacted hundreds of students and countless community members through her civic engagement. She is honored for her unwavering dedication, generosity, and service to Butler County.
