GT students tour My Old Kentucky Home, other sites in Bardstown

On Thursday, March 23rd, 28 students ranging from 4th-8th grade with the Butler County gifted and talented program attended a field trip to Bardstown Kentucky.  They toured My Old Kentucky Home and learned the history of the family and Stephen Foster, who wrote our state song.

Lunch at Talbott Tavern included a brief history lesson on the tavern that included tales of ghosts, visits from Abraham Lincoln and George Washington, and students were also able to see bullet holes left in the Inn from the infamous Jesse James.

The trip concluded with a visit to the Civil War Museum and Pioneer Village.

Leslie Wood, the gifted and talented teacher stated, “This has always been a favorite trip of the students and it is so nice to be able to get back to field trips after a brief hiatus due to Covid restrictions.”

"It was cool to see how many important people came from Kentucky and the importance of our state," said Audrey Green, a 6th grade student at BCMS.
