Green River YDC teams with Norton Children's Hospital

Regardless of ethnicity, gender, or their families’ ability to pay, more than 180,000 children are cared for each year at Norton Children’s Hospital (231 E Chestnut St) in Louisville, KY.  Under the direction of Mr. Gregory Lundy, YSPS II, Mr. Chris Morse, Vocational Instructor, and Dr. Azurdee Garland, Rehabilitation Instructor II, residents at Green River Youth Development Center utilized their talents and skills to make a difference for some of those families.  Green River YDC’s vocational program used Title 1 funding to purchase a Computer Numerical Control (CNC) Machine, additional routers, software, training material, and building materials through Rockler Woodworking and Hardware’s Educational Discounts Program. CNC Machines are in industries and manufacturing processes worldwide with computer assisted programming and design being at the core. Residents created intricate designs for each box then constructed each box before cleaning and sealing.  Families of children who have received cancer treatment at Norton Children’s Hospital receive a box upon leaving the hospital. The opportunity to make a donation gave GRYDC residents a chance to serve others while learning a new skill.
