Green River Museum receives award from Green River DAR

According to the National Society of the Daughters of the American Revolution, “the NSDAR has an award available to present by Chapters. The Excellence in Historic Preservation award, certificate, and medal recognizes outstanding individuals and organizations that promote historic preservation in myriad ways. The recognition honors individuals and groups that have saved and preserved their local history, monuments, cemeteries, and other important artifacts. It is presented to a group or business that rescues a historic structure to establish it as its headquarters.”

On Saturday, August 19, Members of the Green River Chapter of the NSDAR presented the Green River Museum Board with this prestigious award. Chapter Regent Melanie Hunt was the emcee for the event in a ceremony catered by Hebrews 12 Coffee Shop, held in the Green River Museum. To board members, a certificate was given for “appreciation for work in Historic Preservation.” Green River Museum Board Members are Luke Mooneyhan, Suzanne Renfrow, Hunter Peay, Cynthia Barrow, Brenda Longhofer, Hilda Sanborn, Todd Porter, John Martin, Janice Gabbard, Donna Meir, and Sally Givens Rogers. Present at the event were Longhofer, Renfrow, Barrow, and Gabbard.

Museum Chairman Tommy Hines was presented with a unique framed copy of the award and medal. Hunt and Green River Board members praised Hines for tireless work improving the museum, grounds, and other structures. His willingness to complete any task no matter how menial, to see the museum thrive was highlighted throughout the ceremony. At the conclusion of the ceremony, Deb Duncan, Chapter Recording Secretary, led the group in a benediction.
